What the Society Does with the funds you entrust to us:
-
- The Preservation Society is a 100% volunteer organization. The Society’s small budget ($3,200 for 2026) covers our required administrative expenses, such as insurance, website expenses, and P.O. Box rental. The rest of our funds go toward supporting the integrity of the Preserve: tools, signage, invasive plant control, and educating the public about nature, conservation, and the wonders of the Preserve.
What Our Society Volunteers Accomplish Each Year:
-
- In 2025, Society volunteers provided 1,755 hours of service to the Preserve, valued at $58,950. Our volunteers managed 31 work sessions to improve natural habitats and maintain trails. The Society offered 42 educational events, such as nature hikes and webinars with authoritative speakers, which instructed 1,253 participants. The Society works with over ten like-minded organizations to conduct our allied missions. For example, since 2015, we have supported 16 Eagle Scout projects to improve trails and habitat.
Advantages to becoming a member:
-
- We schedule some members-only activities each year. In the past, these have included a holiday party, an exclusive walk through the trout lily field with our longtime mentor, Tom Frey, and a bird-watching walk at the prairie.
- You feel good knowing you are helping preserve and protect this irreplaceable natural treasure.
Funds for all activities are acquired through membership dues, donations, and grants. The funds help support keeping the Preserve in its pristine condition.
The Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
