Chronological Conservation using Fixed Point Photography Stations

Click to Learn More

Fixed Point Photography Stations provide time-lapse, chronological photo images of a single point in the landscape to observe changes in the environment over time. Changes such as receding riverbanks, wildflower fields through the seasons, or tree lines pushing into the prairie can be easily seen as you scroll through the images. We can analyze positive and negative changes to the landscape.

Three photo stations were installed in the Preserve on November 21, 2025.

  • Station 1: Limestone Prairie – 1787 Holford
  • Station 2: Creek View – 1770 Holford
  • Station 3: Bluebird Prairie – 1770 Holford

Notes:

  • Look for the Camera Bracket at each station. Follow the instructions on the post.
  • Each photo must be taken with the phone turned sideways (landscape orientation) sitting flat on the bracket. This is so the Fixed Point image will show the same spot in the landscape every time a participant takes a picture.
  • Images with people in them are not allowed.
  • Your uploaded image will be reviewed for approved content within a few days.
  • All images submitted to the Fixed Point Photo collection site are submitted free of copyright, claim, or other reservation, and are explicitly granted by the photographer to be used for educational and data collection purposes on the site.

The 3 photo stations in Spring Creek Forest and Park Preserves and the web app that allows us to see each of the photos scroll across the screen were created as an Eagle Scout Project by Andrew Owen, Troop 57-B, Garland, Texas. Many thanks to Andrew for creating such a fascinating, useful, citizen-science project.
