Prairie Grasses ID Walk – We suddenly have all 4 big grasses in the same place (plus a couple of extra bonus grasses). This doesn’t happen every day! So now is a great time to buff up on ID skills for our lovely and important fall grasses, primarily the “Prairie Big 4” – big bluestem, little bluestem, Indian grass, and switch grass, plus some other great fall grasses.
Location of grasses ID walk: Meet where Mapleridge Drive dead-ends at Glen Vista (just east of Shiloh between Arapaho and Campbell).
After the grasses walk, if you have time, stroll over to the limestone prairie and enjoy the emerging colors of fall grasses and wildflowers.
Grasses walk is 1 hour AT for Master Naturalists.
With the arrival of (slightly) cooler weather and (some) rain, we’re excited to get going on workdays and walks in our beautiful Preserve. The grasses walk with Dana takes place 1 hour after our monthly work session which is Saturday Sept. 13 from 9-11am at 1770 Holford Road. This month’s work will be grooming our pocket prairie, scattering wildflower seeds, taking out 4 large tree/shrub invasive plants, and more. Bring water, gloves, and stiff-tined garden rakes if you have them. 2 hours VH for Master Naturalists.
See Event details for 2 activities – our Saturday workday, followed by a 1-hour break then a 1-hour fall grass ID walk. Bring a sandwich and join us for both activities if you can!
